Sydney1
Sydney2
Rohi1
Rohi2

Meet Sydney & Rohi.  These two are a dynamic duo. Sydney, a blue merle neutered male, and Rohi, a black tri spayed female, are two sweet older aussies that due to unfortunate circumstances, no fault of their own, have found themselves homeless. They have been in foster care for the last 6 months “getting pretty” as they both needed some diet, exercise and time for their bad haircuts to shape up a little. These two have been together most of their lives and not had much interaction with other dogs. They are doing well in their foster home though, learning that life can go on. Sydney is about 6 y/o and Rohi is about 5 y/o. They are between 45 and 50lbs. They run and play with the energy and enthusiam of young dogs. Rohi is a fool for her purple Jolly Ball and Sydney is nuts over his tennis balls thrown with a "Chuck It" . They play so well together waiting and taking turns while the other gets a throw and a run after their toy. They enjoy their games regardless of the weather and love to do whatever it is you are doing, inside or outside. They are learning some basic obedience among other things here in foster care. They are crate trained and housebroken, and food motivated. We would like to find them one home, but would be willing to split for the right families. They are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and spayed/neutered. If you have any questions, please contact Etta Ruth at aussiemom@windstream.net. These dogs are located in the greater Lexington Area. (listed 03/14/10)

Jazz1
Jazz2
Jazz3

Before I tell you about all the wonderful things I know about Jazz, let me tell you what she isn’t first. Jazz prefers the company of women, and will not be adopted to a male-only home. She is not a dog for a family. She will not go to a home with children, as they terrify her. She must have a fenced in yard, no exceptions. The fence must be physical, not invisible/electric, no exceptions. Jazz cannot go out of state for her adoption unless it is a picture-perfect home with someone with Aussie experience.

Now, that you know the downside, let me tell you about all the good things. Jazz is a 6 year old, blue merle female who is absolutely a joy to have around. She is a playful, fun loving, smart, challenging dog. Jazz LOVES to play “hide and seek” and she will fetch a ball or stick. She loves to run and romp in the yard, seeming almost puppyish at times. She enjoys being outside playing with her people.

Once bonded, Jazz will be the most loyal dog, and will always be focused on her person. After she has had a chance to establish a strong bond with her new person, Jazz will love to be your walking buddy. She enjoys evening walks with her special person as well, trips to places that are out in the open such as parks. Her recall is excellent, she is housebroken and crated trained, and walks well on leash. She gets along well with other dogs and while we don’t know about cats, we suspect she would be fine with them.

Despite her fears and hesitations, she is a curious pup with a need to explore. Once she is comfortable with her surroundings (could take several months), Jazz loves to investigate newcorners in her world, laying aside her fears to find something that sparks her inner curiosity. Jazz has been known to sneak around the house, searching out fun toys and interesting things, only to pile them up and look at them, again, after she is comfortable in her home.

Jazz knows basic obedience, a couple of tricks, and is learning to herd. She has entered our herding classes, been instinct tested (AND PASSED!) and is furthering her training.  She will make a wonderful and loyal friend to her new adopters.

Jazz is an amazing dog. If you have any questions about Jazz, or would like to adopt her, please contact Amanda at Amandariddle@insightbb.com. Jazz is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed and microchipped.  Jazz is located in the Greater Cincinnati area. (listed 07/20/09; updated 04/30/10))

New Spirit Rescue Dogs

The following are New Spirit Rescue program dogs. Don't wait until you see a dog that interests you; visit New Spirit's Web site for an application now! Then you will be pre-approved when the right dog is available.

Bandit Bob

If you are looking for a sweet, loving, easy-going boy, Bandit (NS #0442) is your man. Bandit is up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, heartworm negative and ready to go to his new home. He is a 6 year old blue merle male.

He has a very thick, coarse coat that will soften with time and good nutrition. He is a loyal and devoted companion who is a sponge for attention. And he’s smart! He enjoys ice cubes and knows when the icemaker is pressed. Tonight he was even jumping up to put his paws on the lever to get cubes to drop. He didn’t have it quite right but in a couple of days he will. He loves his food and knows to sit to have it put on the floor for him. The puppy pool was filled this evening and he happily stepped right in to cool himself off.

Bandit really does not like thunder so he would be best suited for a home where his human is home during the day or where thunderstorms are not so prevalent.

Additional photos are available. If you are interested in Bandit, please complete an adoption application at NewSpirit4AussieRescue.org and contact Anne at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 05/22/10; updated 07/20/10)

Socks1
Socks2

This little fellow is Socks (NS #385).  Socks was sprung as his time was running out in the shelter. He's smaller at 35 pounds, a black-tri male, 9 months-1 year old. He's a higher octane young Aussie who wants and needs lots of play time, with frisbee, running, or other similar activities to use up his considerable energy. His focus on his handler is intense so training him is a pleasure, but he's the sort of young fellow who needs his one-on-one time or he will find other fun things to do on his own. He needs outlets for his very bright mind and his youthful exuberance, and it will be another year or so till he starts to settle as he matures into an adult. He loves people and is good with other dogs except very small ones, and that goes for cats, too: way too interested in them so no cat homes only for him. Older, more sedate or less play driven dogs might find him a bit too much. If you would like to be considered for Socks’ new family, please complete an online application at newspirit4aussierescue.org. (listed 03/23/10)

Privately Referred Dogs

The following dogs are listed as a courtesy to other rescues, shelters, and private individuals looking to place a dog. Any adoption resulting from these listings is a matter solely between the lister and potential adopter.

Hayes

Special Needs

Hayes is a young, male Aussie mix around 8-10 months old. He weighs 47 lbs, stands about 20 inches tall, has a fluffy full tail and gorgeous blue merle and white coat.

Hayes is neutered, up to date on shots and heartworm negative. He is learning how to walk nicely on leash, go in his crate and is doing well with housetraining. Hayes will lay around just waiting for a belly rub, ignores the cats, but has not been tested with kids or other animals yet.

Hayes will need a special family to keep him safe. You see Hayes is a product of poor breeding, what is known as a double merle, and he is probably completely deaf, but has good vision. His foster dad is very experienced with special needs dogs and can tell you they are just like "regular" dogs. Hayes is residing in Elizabethtown.

If you have not experienced a visually or hearing challenged dog, you will be amazed by their intelligence and compensation skills. A visually impaired dog can memorize a yard after one trip. There are lots of resources, including adopters of similar dogs, to teach you how to train them so they can live their lives fully.

Potential adopters should have a fenced yard to keep Hayes safe and should be committed to specialized training such as sign language or touch training.

For additional information, please contact Andrew at 270-307-1551 or by email at shizukana@bbtel.com, or Kentucky rep Anne at apritch@roadrunner.com. (listed 06/26/10)

Willow1
Willow2

Special needs (deaf, & visually impaired)

Willow is a privately referred dog, please contact the person listed below for more information.

Willow was born December 16, 2009, so he is about 6 months old. He a blue merle male, and weighs between 30-35 pounds, so he will be a pretty good-sized Aussie. He is very sweet and mellow at times, but he does love to play! He will get into things if not properly watched or crated when you are out of the room or away from the home, so he'll need to be crated when left unsupervised for now.

Willow has tons and tons of puppy energy, and would be best suited in for a home with a large, fenced yard where he can play all he wants. Willow was adopted once before and was recently returned because his owner lived in an apartment and it was just not the right environment for him. He would also do fine in a home with other dogs, cats or even rabbits.

He has all his vaccinations, has been neutered, and is on flea/heartworm preventative. I have signed him up for a puppy training class and will continue to work with him on his training at home prior to adoption. I will be very thorough in my search for a new home for Willow this time, because I want this transition to be permanent for him; this poor little guy has been through so much in his short life, I want him to have the best.

This is most important: Willow is blind in his right eye and completely deaf, which makes his training more difficult but not impossible. I think he may be able to see out of his left eye enough to do understand signs, but it may have to be big gestures. I am also going to start teaching him touch signals as an alternative. I would recommend his adopter purchase a vibrating collar to further enhance his training capabilities; Australian Shepherds are extremely intelligent and his handicaps certainly do not make him the exception.

To make this little doll your new best friend please contact Rebecca at rdbeasley12@transy.edu. (listed 06/12/10)
